Road and Traffic Sign Categories

We fabricate road and traffic signs across the six groups below. Panel, sheeting, size and mounting are confirmed for each order. Not every category or material suits every location, and signs for public roads must follow the specification and approvals that apply to that project.

Regulatory and control signs

Signs that tell road users what they must or must not do.

Examples: Stop, give way, speed limit, no entry, no parking and one-way signs.

Warning and hazard signs

Signs that alert road users to a hazard or a change in road conditions ahead.

Examples: Bends, junctions, pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, school zones and slippery road signs.

Directional and destination signs

Signs that guide drivers and visitors to roads, places and facilities.

Examples: Direction arrows, destination boards, street name signs, and site entrance and exit signs.

Roadworks and construction signs

Temporary and site signs for contractors working on or near roads.

Examples: Roadworks ahead, men at work, diversion, lane closed and construction vehicle crossing signs.

Estate, parking and private-road signs

Signs for residential estates, car parks and private access roads.

Examples: Estate speed limits, parking bays, reserved and visitor parking, gate and street name signs.

Information and custom signs

Information boards and signs made to your own wording and layout.

Examples: Facility information boards, location boards, custom directional boards and project signboards.

Road Signs for Contractors, Estates and Facilities

Signs inside private premises are usually specified by the owner or facility manager. Signs on or beside public roads must follow the design, placement and approval requirements set for that project. We fabricate to whichever specification applies to your site.

Road contractors and infrastructure projects

Regulatory, warning, directional and roadworks signs supplied against the project’s sign schedule and specifications. Public-road signs follow the requirements and approvals set for the contract.

Residential estates and property developments

Street name, estate speed limit, gate, parking and visitor directional signs for private estate roads.

Industrial facilities and factories

Internal road, speed limit, pedestrian route, loading bay and yard traffic signs to manage vehicles and people on site.

Commercial properties and business parks

Entrance, exit, parking, drop-off and directional signs that help visitors and deliveries find their way.

Schools, hospitals and institutions

School zone, slow down, parking, ambulance route and directional signs for campuses and compounds. Signs on public roads outside the premises may need the relevant authority’s input.

Logistics and distribution facilities

Gate, weighbridge, loading dock, one-way and speed control signs for yards with heavy vehicle traffic.

Road Sign Panels, Reflective Sheeting and Mounting Options

We fabricate road signs from Alucobond (ACM, aluminium composite material) panels faced with honeycomb reflective sheeting, and supply SHS (square hollow section) steel posts and frames for mounting. The sheeting grade, panel size and thickness, post size and fixings are confirmed for each job against your specification and the conditions where the sign will be installed.

ACM is a composite panel, with two thin aluminium skins bonded to a core. It is not the same as solid aluminium plate. Whether it suits a particular sign depends on the sign’s size, mounting arrangement and exposure, so we confirm the panel and mounting together before production. Our signage materials guide explains the differences between ACP, aluminium and other sign materials. For reflective printed graphics, see vinyl sticker printing.

What to include in your specification

Substrate and panel construction

Panel type (for example ACM), edge finish, and whether the sign is single- or double-sided.

Dimensions and thickness

Finished sign size, panel thickness and any size standard you are working to.

Symbols, lettering, arrows and artwork

Approved artwork, legends, symbols, arrow directions and colours.

Stiffeners, posts, brackets and fixings

Rear stiffeners or channels, post type and size, brackets and fixing method.

Mounting and installation requirements

Post, wall or existing-structure mounting, foundations, mounting height and site conditions.

Quantity and project schedule

Quantity of each sign, delivery locations and any programme dates.

Fabrication to Your Project Specifications

Flexrad fabricates road and traffic signs to client-supplied specifications. For projects involving public roads, regulated traffic control or other controlled installations, the required sign design, materials, dimensions, mounting and approvals must be confirmed for the specific application.

Clients should provide the relevant drawings, specifications, approved artwork or project documentation available to them. Before production or installation, we agree with the client any outstanding requirements, responsibilities and approvals relevant to the agreed scope. Flexrad does not approve public-road installations, and a drawing on its own does not establish that a sign is compliant.

Road Signs FAQs

We fabricate road signs to the specifications our clients supply. We don’t describe our signs as NTSA-approved or certified. Where a sign is for a public road or another regulated location, the required design, materials, dimensions, mounting and approvals need to be confirmed for that project, usually through the project specification, the engineer or the relevant road authority. Share those documents with us and we’ll fabricate to them.

We use Alucobond (ACM) panels faced with honeycomb reflective sheeting, mounted on SHS (square hollow section) steel posts or frames. The sheeting grade, panel size and post size are confirmed for each job against your specification and the installation conditions. ACM is a composite panel, not solid aluminium, so we confirm it suits the sign size and mounting before production.

Yes. Send your drawings, sign schedule or approved artwork and we’ll fabricate to them. If anything is unclear or missing, we’ll ask before quoting. A drawing does not by itself confirm that a sign meets the requirements for a public road; those need to be confirmed for the project.

Yes. We supply SHS (square hollow section) steel posts, brackets, stiffeners and fixings where they are part of the agreed scope. Tell us the mounting method and site conditions so we can confirm a suitable post size and arrangement for the sign.

Yes. Installation is offered in addition to supply, subject to the project scope, site conditions and any approvals that apply. It is quoted as part of the agreed scope.

It depends on the sign size and panel, the reflective sheeting, artwork, posts and mounting, quantity, transport and installation. We don’t publish a price list because these vary by project. Send your requirements for a quotation.

Lead times depend on quantities, specification, material availability and installation requirements. We confirm estimated delivery or installation dates in the quotation.

We can fabricate and supply signs to the specification provided for the project. Before production or installation, we agree with the client which approvals apply and who is responsible for obtaining them. Flexrad does not approve public-road installations itself.
